1. CALVIN MONRUS⁴ OACHS (WILLIAM³, PETER CHARLES² OCHS, PETER¹) was born 23 Jul 1924 in Mankato, Blue Earth, Minnesota, and died 13 Aug 2003 in Mankato, Blue Earth, Minnesota. He married MARGARET MARIE WEIH 01 Jan 1943 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Mankato, daughter of ALFRED WIEH and IDA ENZ. She was born 26 Jan 1924, and died 28 Jan 2006 in Mankato, Minnesota.

Biography

Calvin Monrus Oachs was born in Sterling Township, Minnesota.  He was the eleventh child of sixteen children born to William and Minnie (Ward) Oachs.  He served in the U.S. Army.  He enlisted on November 11, 1944 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.  He was a private.  His terms of enlistment were for the duration of the war or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law.  He completed grammar school. Calvin married Margaret Weih on January 1, 1943. 

Calvin lost his right hand in an industrial accident at the Honeymead Plant in Mankato, Minnesota.  He had been employed by Honeymead, which is the largest soybean processing plant, since 1947.

Despite having only one hand, he was a skilled woodworker and loved to plant his garden every spring. See newspaper article about Cal.

Calvin and Margaret had five children: Janis Marie, Kallie Jane and Kelly Jean (twins) and two sons.  The three girls died at birth.

Calvin and Margaret Oachs celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary at their home on May 1, 1993 with their many family members and friends.

Calvin and Margaret Oachs are buried in Woodland Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
