Lorna Mildred Oachs was born in Sterling Township, Minnesota. She was the third child of sixteen children born to William Oachs and Minnie (Ward) Oachs. She was a member of the Kato Kids Band. She played the saxophone and beat the bass drum with her foot.
She married Christian Peter Hansen on November 28, 1934 in Mankato, Minnesota. Chris and Lorna moved to San Diego, California in 1940. Chris worked for Convair in San Diego, California for 36 years. He was also an assistant pastor for a church in San Diego and later on became a pastor of his own church for ten years.
Lorna went to college and became a preschool director and kindergarten teacher for Kiddie Korral. She later opened her own preschool, Moppet’s Villa. She sold the business and retired at the age of 66.
Chris and Lorna Hansen had four children: Juanita Wylene, Lavon Nadine, Darlene Ramona and Dale Chris. At a young age, Lorna noticed that Juanita did not respond to sounds. She was deaf. This may be due to the fact that Lorna had german measles in her first trimester of pregnancy or a result of Juanita having contracted mumps at age 3 months old. Lavon Nadine died at age 2 months old of influenza. Darlene and Dale had Hurler’s Syndrome which is a rare genetic disease. It is only apparent in a child when both parents are carriers of this gene. They lived longer than children do with this disease due to the constant loving care of Lorna. She was advised to place them in a home where they could be cared for but she refused and cared for them until they passed away in the early 20’s.
At age 87, Lorna was diagnosed with Dementia. She lived in a nursing home the last two years of her life with constant loving care of her family. She died at age 90 and is buried with her husband, Chris and her two children, Dale and Darlene in the family crypt at the Cypress View Mausoleum. Lavon Nadine is buried in the Garden City Cemetery in Garden City, Minnesota.
